Lake Louise has a way of pulling people in at all times of the year – from the snowy peaks, the amazing skiing conditions, the quietness of the winter, the frozen lake, and the beautiful sunsets and sunrises. It’s no wonder that this makes it one of the most perfect places to propose.

I had the pleasure of photographing a winter mini (looked more like fall since there wasn’t any snow yet in Banff in November!!) of a gorgeous couple. They are playful, affectionate, and it was completely obvious they were in love. Being the nosey person I am, I noticed she wasn’t wearing a ring. They asked if there were any spots they should visit as they were not in Alberta for much longer – I suggested they go to Lake Louise!

Fast forward a couple weeks after the mini shoot, he messaged me asking if I was available for a shoot in Lake Louise. I immediately wondered if it was for a proposal… I was right! He had loved their mini session and the photos that came with it. They had also visited Lake Louise like I had suggested and they both fell in love with it – so what better place to propose?!

We started planning the session – she knows who I am so she knew he had planned another photoshoot. His reason being that since we didn’t get the snowy mountains in the Banff mini, they should have a redo. She didn’t think anything of it! We did have to get a little creative when it came to popping the question though. We came up with a casual prompt that I gave during the session, this would be his signal to drop to one knee.

The day of, the lake was quiet, there was fresh snow on the lake, and we got to taking photos. We took a couple of photos to ease into things. Then I told them to take a couple steps away from each other and run into each others arms – this was his signal. She started running towards him, he took a couple steps, and got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him.

It was perfect.

She was completely surprised – tears, laughter, and so much joy in this moment. I let them embrace each other and be full of pure bliss while I continued taking photos. Capturing all the moments that they can now enjoy forever.
