As a photographer, there’s nothing quite like the joy of capturing special moments for my clients. This fall, I had the privilege of photographing both couples and families in the beautiful landscapes of Cochrane and Canmore, Alberta. Both these locations offer beautiful mountain and rolling hill backdrops for photos.
Although many are sad (myself included) with the weather taking a drastic change to cooler temperatures in Alberta, I know we are just as happy to see the fall colors emerging. The colors that come with fall create a magical atmosphere that perfectly captures families and couples.
Cochrane is a little hidden gem in Alberta that not very many people know about – at least the people I’ve talked to who aren’t from Alberta! This year I hosted fall minis at the Glenbow Park which is about a 5 minute drive up the hill from Cochrane. This location is an amazing backdrop for family and couples. It offers diverse landscapes; from the riverbanks of the bow river, to the rolling hills and vibrant wildflower fields. On a nice clear day, you can also see the Rockies in the background!
Canmore is just under an hour of a drive away and offers a completely different atmosphere for photos. Canmore is known for its mountain terrain, and its cute little downtown area – so beautiful during the fall and winter months! The spot that I chose for the minis this year was right by a little pond known as Sulphur pond. This area is known to bikers with the many bike routes here, but also has a beautiful large field with a perfect view of the three sisters. It was so much fun watching this family and their kids running through the grass.
Photography to me is not just about everyone standing straight and looking at the camera (although I will be sure to get one of those photos too); it’s about telling stories and capturing emotions. Before the session even starts, I ask all my clients if there’s anything off limits, and what their dream photos look like. I strive to create an environment where families and couples feel comfortable and free to express themselves. It’s always heartwarming to look back on the photos while editing and see the connection between family members and the love shared between couples in the beauty of Alberta.
If you’re interested in capturing your own special moments, whether it’s a family gathering, an engagement, or simply a fun day in nature, I would love to work with you! Let’s explore the stunning locations of Alberta, Ontario, or British Columbia! I’m also of course open to do some travel in Italy or Paris… haha. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions!
