Congratulations on your engagement!! What an amazing and special time for you and your partner! And I want to help you capture it in the best way possible. Engagement photos are a fun and important way to show off your love to friends and family before your big day. To ensure you receive amazing engagement photos, here are a couple of tips that should help:
Plan Ahead! It is crucial to plan your engagement photos in advance. What kind of background are you going for? Living in Alberta you have a few different options; city scape, mountains, prairie, all within maybe an hour or so from each other! Will you be getting your hair and make up done? This can be a good opportunity to have a trial makeup session done by your makeup artist to see how it looks in photos. The planning process allows for ideas to generate in your mind and ensures you create a photoshoot vision that expresses your relationship style.
Choose the right photographer. A great photographer is key to getting amazing engagement photos. Your photographer should have the same vision as you and understand the timeless yet unique story you want to portray. It’s also a good idea to have your wedding photographer as your engagement photographer, this allows you three to get to know each other before the wedding. It allows you to build a rapport with each other and get out any jitters before meeting on your wedding day! This is why I offer a free engagement session for ALL of my wedding packages! I want to get to know you and your partner before your big day so that when we see each other again on your day, it’s just like we’re old friends meeting up again.
Coordinate outfits! When selecting your outfits, it is essential that you consider each others wardrobe. You don’t want to be too similar, but you don’t want to be mismatched either. Be sure to choose something that you’re both comfortable in and that reflects your style.
Choose a meaningful location. Choosing a location that is meaningful to you can make all the difference! Discover places that you associate with shared memories. A cherished location introduces unparalleled sentimental value, transforming photos into an unforgettable keepsake. Side note: My engagement photos will be taken in a few months and I am so excited! I’m from a big city and my partner is from a very small town that still doesn’t have cell service. I haven’t told him this yet, but I’m hoping to have our engagement session in Calgary so that we can have the city scape and the mountains in the background! I’ll be sure to write a post after we get our photos done!
Bring your personality! Don’t be afraid to bring your personality to the photoshoot. Incorporate the things you love and enjoy doing together. Abandon any stiffness and embrace your authenticity. I know it can be hard to just not be stiff, when you shoot with me I won’t just pose you into unnatural poses, but I’ll give you prompts that make you and your partner move together and get genuine laughs!
Hopefully these tips will help you achieve your dream engagement photos that you’ll be proud to display. Planning in advance, selecting the right photographer, coordinating wardrobe, choosing a meaningful location, and incorporating your personalities into the photoshoot all play a vital role. Again, congratulations on your engagement and have fun creating beautiful memories together!
